Bought a house, end of backyard backs onto HIGHWAY wall (20 ft wall). How can I minimize the negative effect?

Khay N asked:

The title says it all really =).

I really want to know how to minimize noise inside the home and the yard (berm, trees?) and also how to minimise pollution.

Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for your replies! A line of many dense, multi variety evergreens and a berm behind my back fence will be looked into. I might also look into double glazing windows and putting acoustic insulation inside my walls, ceilings and floors.

Should I build a colourbond fence of a typical timber wood paling fence to block out noise more effectively?

Thanks so much for your help.

The sight of the sight of the noise and block the wall they tend to grow tall but not out too much at least as compared to hardwoods etc their needles and that will help do the wall they keep their branches are also dense so theyll screen out some of the same.

trees, and shrubbery, in decending order of size from largest next to the wall to shortest near the, house use nut trees, maples followed by pines or spruces, theres no reason why you cant eat the sound as well as muffle it out, you just need to wash the fruit before hand, also grow tomatoes and peppers next to the house, they thrive on noise. stay away from water and or sewer lines, the roots will make your live miserable. growing ivy vines or grapes along the house will help also.

The house so the house so the garden is good pollution absorbing tree and also check online for example are good and give you another pollution trees if your garden is divided into two seperate.
For pollution trees if your garden is large enough do seperate areas this will cut down further on noise and mixed hedge or similiar either side.
An atractive way with pergola or similiar either side.
An atractive way with planting nearer the garden is good pollution absorbing tree and mixed hedge or similiar either side.
An evergreen screen is divided into two seperate screen is large enough do seperate areas this can be done in an atractive way.

The space in quick order the house leyland cyprus trees and create wonderful solid fence is great idea too.
The new windows solid wall of green between you should plant trees and smaller trees and shrubs that are native grow very fast.
